Ghazi Al-Mulaifi, PhD (b. 1977) is an ethnomusicologist who earned his Phd in Music from New York University. In addition to working as an assistant professor of music, Al-Mulaifi is also a sound installation artist, composer, world-jazz musician, and band leader. His research interests include: Kuwaiti pearl diving music, world-jazz, and heritage production. In the spring of 2013, Arte East Quarterly published the article All the Men Died at Sea. In 2014, Al-Mulaifi participated as a sound installation artist and film-scorer for Kuwait's participation in the Venice Biennale. His current efforts include the creation of a world jazz ensemble where he and Kuwaiti musicians dialog Kuwaiti bahri (sea) rhythms with jazz improvisational traditions.
